Gardens do not succeed by accident. They succeed because someone, somewhere, cared enough to do things properly when nobody was watching. That is the thread that runs through everything we do.
Our approach to planting is not about speed, fashion, or filling space. It is about understanding plants, understanding places, and bringing the two together in a way that feels natural, generous, and built to last.
We believe plants are not decoration. They are the living structure of a garden. The element that softens hard landscaping, shapes views, supports wildlife, changes with the seasons, and gives a garden its atmosphere and soul.
Everything begins there.
Our Approach
-
In many projects, plants are the final line on the budget. The finishing touch. The bit that happens if there is time.
We see it differently.
We think about planting from the very beginning. How tall things will become. How wide they will grow. How light will move through them. How they will look in February as well as July. How they will sit against walls, paths, terraces, and views from the house.
This long term thinking allows us to create planting schemes that feel settled quickly and improve year after year rather than deteriorate.
-
This simple principle underpins everything.
We select hardy plants suited to the UK climate. We consider soil type, aspect, drainage, exposure, and surrounding materials. We think about maintenance levels and how the garden will realistically be used.
We also think carefully about timing. When plants are supplied. How they are handled. Whether they are bare root, root balled, or containerised. When they are fed. When they are cut back. When they are staked.
Planting is not just about what goes in the ground. It is about when and how it goes in the ground.
-
What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead. What sets us apart isn’t just our process, it’s the intention behind it. We take time to understand, explore, and One of our core beliefs is that roots matter more than top growth.
We select plants for the quality of their root systems, not for how impressive they look above the soil on the day of planting. This is particularly important for herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and trees that need to establish quickly and strongly.
In winter, this often means you will see what we call pots of potential. Containers that appear to hold little more than soil. What is happening beneath the surface is far more important. When spring arrives, these plants surge into life with energy and vigour because the root system has already done the hard work.
It requires a little trust. The results speak for themselves.
-
Before any plant reaches your garden, it has been inspected for pests, disease, stress, and root health. We source from trusted nurseries across the UK and Europe, buying locally where possible but always prioritising quality root stock.
We are registered importers of plants, allowing us to responsibly bring in stock that meets our standards.
When plants arrive, we handle them carefully. They are protected during transport, positioned appropriately on site, and, if necessary, cut back to reduce stress and improve establishment. This is not cosmetic gardening. It is horticulture.
-
Planting is as much about placement as it is about selection.
We set plants out on site before they go into the ground. We stand back. We adjust. We refine spacing. We consider sight lines, layering, and how the scheme will read from different viewpoints.
This process ensures planting feels natural and balanced rather than rigid or forced.
-
Correct soil preparation. Appropriate feeding at the right time of year. Proper staking that allows plants to strengthen naturally. Careful watering in. These details are often overlooked, but they are critical to long term success.
We plant in a way that gives every specimen the best possible start and reduces the likelihood of failure.
-
Our approach works equally well in newly built gardens and long established ones.
For new gardens, we bring the space to life with thoughtful planting and styling that softens new materials and creates immediate atmosphere.
For established gardens, we offer border refresh services that rejuvenate tired planting, correct past mistakes, and reintroduce structure and seasonal interest.
In both cases, the objective is the same. To create planting that feels as though it truly belongs.
-
Our planting team is led by Tom, whose depth of horticultural knowledge shapes the way we work day to day. Under his guidance, the team shares a collective understanding of plants that goes far beyond names on a plan.
This knowledge allows us to make informed decisions on site, adapt where necessary, and always prioritise the health of the plants and the integrity of the scheme.
-
There is always a quiet phase after planting. Especially in winter. It can look sparse, understated, even slightly unremarkable.
This is where patience is required.
Beneath the surface, roots are establishing, soil is settling, and plants are preparing. Then spring arrives and the transformation happens quickly and confidently.
This rhythm is part of our approach. We understand it, we plan for it, and we guide clients through it.
-
Our ultimate aim is simple:
To create planting that looks good in year one and even better in year five. Gardens that do not need constant correction because they were set up properly from the start.
When plants are chosen well, planted well, and cared for correctly in those early stages, they reward you for many years to come.
That is our approach. Thoughtful, careful, and rooted in a genuine respect for plants and the role they play in shaping beautiful gardens.
